The Philanthropy Day “Heart of Gold” award luncheon took place on February 14, 2019, at the majestic JW Marriott in Austin, Texas.

The 2019 Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon event celebrated the philanthropic #HeartofGold in the community of Central Texas. This event is one of the most inspiring and meaningful celebrations that uplift the community of Austin to the next level. The luncheon honored eight outstanding individuals, corporations, foundations, and organizations with the “HEART OF GOLD” for making a lasting impact in our community. The AFP greater Austin also celebrated the chapter’s 35 year of fostering a vibrant and ethical fundraising community in Central Texas.

Each year, the AFP greater Austin chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals honors the region’s most accomplished volunteers, donors and funders and brings together nearly 1,000 community, philanthropic and nonprofit leaders to celebrate outstanding individuals, corporations, foundations and organizations whose philanthropic footprint inspires change and empowers good for the Central Texas community. Proceeds from the event support AFP’s mission of advancing philanthropy by enabling people and organizations to practice effective and ethical fundraising. The AFP Greater Austin Chapter represents nearly 323 members and is one of 190 chapters throughout the world working to advance philanthropy through advocacy, research, education, and certificate programs.

The event took place on the perfect day, Valentine’s Day, to celebrate union, love, inspiration and connection in the community of Texas. The role of nonprofits are undoubtedly very important for the development of communities because they help grow social and economic well-being, provide services and resources to people in need, and aid the development of the arts, cultural awareness, education, health, and spirituality.

The welcome speech was given by Fayruz Benyousef, CFRE (Fayruz Benyousef Consulting). He delivered inspiring and uplifting words during the VIP reception. Robin Bradford, CFRE (Greater Austin President) made excellent remarks. Simone Talma Flower (Interfaith Action of Central Texas) delivered an impressive invocation to the attendees and the community who has shown exceptional commitment to personal philanthropy by direct gifts and leadership to the area of nonprofits. Dave Shawn (Arrow) who was the honoree of the celebration united the room with inspiring words. The keynote conversation given by Michael Barnes (Austin American Statesman) was charismatic and informative for the community. Nikki Graham (Bank of America) presented the Neighborhood Builders Awards to SAFE. Megan Arnold, CFRE (YMCA of Austin) delivered meaningful thoughts and reflections and the closing of the event was delivered by Adrienne Longenecker, CFRE (2019 Philanthropy Day Chair)

The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) represents more than 30,000 members in over 230 chapters throughout the world, working to advance philanthropy through advocacy, research, education and certification programs.  The association fosters the development and growth of fundraising professionals and promotes high ethical standards in the fundraising profession.
