Have you had a teacher that you remember fondly, that helped you learn about the world in a new way? Road Scholar’s new program is focused on these special people.
Between now and March 31, the public is invited to nominate a recently retired or soon-to-retire teacher or administrator for the award. One exceptional educator will win a $5,000 Road Scholar voucher to embark on a Road Scholar program of their choice and jump-start their lifelong learning journey in retirement.
Some inspiring nominations have already been received, including Beverley who nominated her friend and former colleague June from Massachusetts. Here is an excerpt from her nomination submission:
“June immerses her students in understanding with projects that allow them to learn and express their creativity… Peers and students look at her for her happiness and spirit as well as her willingness to listen and help… June went to Greece in April 2017 and immersed herself in the history and life of Athens and the area. She would tell her students, ‘Travel is the best education you can get.’ June was widowed in 2022 and recently successfully completed her treatment for cancer. She realizes it is time to allow time for her to travel without the hindrance of the school schedule. For June, travel will not be just a memory but thoroughly enjoyed and shared with all who know her.”

Eligibility: Nominees must be retiring teachers or educators in daycare, preschool, K-12, college or university settings who retired in 2024 or are retiring in 2025.
