Queens stand up! Last night at was the official kick-off the BET Awards Weekend!Held in Downtown Los Angeles, the Staples Center was taken over by purely undeniable talent.
This year’s line-up of concerts boasts some of today’s hottest artists! Thursday, June 20th, “Ladies (U)nite!”, with an all-female line-up including Mary J. Blige, H.E.R, Summer Walker, Queen Naija and Bri Steves. The kick-off to the festivities is a major mood! How else can you fully encapsulate true beauty and talent than with this solid line-up.
Bri Steves opened kicked off the evening and got the crowd hyped for the exciting evening ahead. Queen Naija quickly rose to fame after her hit single, “Medicine.” Prior to its release she focused on her YouTube channel. Since her music career took off she has been proving herself in the industry. Adding her to the lineup for “Ladies (U)nite!” was genius!
Gabi Wilson, known by her stage name H.E.R, has been captivating her fans since she hit the stage. Her smooth vocals and all to real lyrics allow her fans to fall in love with music all over again.
Wilson explained that the point of creating H.E.R. was to not distract from her message. “I think it has allowed me to make the music the focus, and for people not to care about the superficial things or who I’m associated with, what clique I belong to—all those things that don’t matter,” she told ELLE.com. “It’s really made people focus on the music, and that’s what’s special about it.”
All of the artists leading up to the final performance of Mary J. Blige. Recently BET Networks confirmed Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, Oscar-nominated actress and philanthropist Mary J. Blige will be honored with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the 19th annual “BET Awards.“
This performance showcased just why Mary J. Blige is being given such a prestigious award. Her grace is unmatched, her beauty is top-tier, and her talent unfathomable. The songstress has so many hits! Going from the early 90s to present day. Watching the magnitude of her talents is remarkable. She has always handled her stardom with the most respect and grace and ALWAYS represents her day ones.
“So amazing to be doing this along so many amazing new generation stars like H.E.R, Queen Naija, and Summer,” Blige exclaimed during her set. “This is good! I owe it all to my fans for keeping me here, but I also owe it to myself for knowing how to act, how to treat people, (and) knowing how to pray. All that!”
After a few more singles, Blige couldn’t help but break it down for everyone and speak directly to the fellas in the audience.
“Fellas, it’s nothing like having a strong woman in your life. But in order to do so, there’s a couple of things that are required. See, (as) women we want you to help us, take care of us, and all of that, but we also want you to let us take care of ourselves as well. We want to be independent but we also I’m trying to do my thing and you getting all weird and jealous. I don’t have time for that. Don’t come home or back to me comparing me to no other female. It’s too bad that you couldn’t see that soon enough – there is only ONE Mary J. Blige,” Blige explained. “We really want to put our 100% trust in you. Please by all means, be careful with us, be gentle with us. If you take care of us, we will blow your minds with the things you ask us for. You will not believe what we will do for love.”
Of course Mary J. Blige sung many of her high energy positive singles, but I’d have to admit a different energy came over the crowd once her single,”Just Fine” took over the room. “At the end of the day, everything is going to be just fine,” Blige exclaimed before going into one of my personal favorites! The crowd felt her message and it was WELL received! Jammin with Mary J. Blige felt like a day at a good Sunday Service. Cheers to you Mary J. Blige, and your well-served accomplishments.
We will be at the BET Experience all weekend! Be sure to check back daily with updates!
